UN Expert Calls US Strikes on Venezuela “Illegal Aggression”

(MENAFN) On Saturday, the UN’s leading authority on counterterrorism and human rights strongly denounced US military actions in Venezuela, labeling them an “illegal aggression.”

“I condemn the US’ illegal aggression against Venezuela & the illegal abduction of its leader and his wife,” Ben Saul declared. He added, “Every Venezuelan life lost is a violation of the right to life. President Trump should be impeached and investigated for the alleged killings.”

Earlier, Venezuela’s government accused the US of striking both civilian and military facilities across several states, prompting the declaration of a national emergency.

US President Donald Trump confirmed on his social media platform Truth Social that the US had carried out a "large scale" strike, announcing that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife had been captured and transported out of the country.

These developments followed months of heightened tensions between Washington and Caracas. The US had accused Maduro of involvement in drug trafficking, while Maduro rejected the allegations, insisting he was not a cartel leader and had expressed willingness to engage in dialogue.
