Indonesia Calls for Peaceful Resolution After U.S. Venezuela Strikes


(MENAFN) Indonesian authorities Saturday demanded de-escalation and diplomatic engagement following American military strikes on Venezuela, while underlining the critical role of international legal frameworks and established norms.

Jakarta maintains active surveillance of Venezuelan developments to safeguard its nationals, according to a statement released by Indonesia's Foreign Ministry via X, the U.S. social media platform.

"Indonesia also calls on all relevant parties to prioritize peaceful resolution through de-escalation and dialogue, while prioritizing the protection of civilians," the statement declared.

"Indonesia emphasizes the importance of respecting international law and the principles of the UN Charter," officials added.

In a parallel development, the Malaysian Foreign Ministry announced that Kuala Lumpur is maintaining close watch over Venezuelan circumstances.

"As a matter of principle, Malaysia opposes all forms of foreign intervention in the internal affairs of other states, as well as the threat or use of force," the ministry stated.

Venezuelan authorities previously alleged that Washington targeted both civilian and military facilities across numerous regions, subsequently invoking a national emergency.

Via his platform Truth Social, U.S. President Donald Trump verified executing a "large-scale" military operation, confirming Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his spouse had been seized and removed from the nation.

The assault followed prolonged tensions with Washington, which has accused Maduro of narcotics trafficking involvement. Maduro has rejected cartel leadership allegations and previously signaled openness to negotiations.

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung directed government officials to guarantee protection for South Korean nationals within Venezuela and establish contingency evacuation protocols if required, media reported.

China's Foreign Ministry and the Chinese Embassy in Venezuela released guidance urging Chinese citizens to postpone Venezuelan travel temporarily, media reported.

Chinese nationals and organizations currently in Venezuela should maintain awareness of local security conditions, enhance safety protocols and crisis readiness, and minimize non-essential travel outside accommodations, the advisory stated.

The Philippines similarly instructed its citizens in Venezuela to exercise heightened caution, track unfolding events, and shelter in place, media reported.

The Japanese Foreign Ministry announced immediate establishment of an emergency operations center at the Embassy of Japan in Venezuela, confirming Tokyo would pursue comprehensive measures for intelligence gathering and protection of Japanese nationals.

India likewise counseled its citizens "to avoid all non-essential travel to Venezuela," citing "recent developments."
