Trump Blocks HieFo’s Acquisition of Emcore Assets

(MENAFN) On Friday, US President Donald Trump issued an executive directive halting HieFo Corp.’s planned purchase of semiconductor-related holdings from Emcore Corp., citing national security as the justification.

The order emphasized that HieFo—a company registered in Delaware—was established and is overseen by a Chinese national. It specifically targeted the firm’s intended takeover of Emcore’s resources tied to digital chip technology, including wafer design, manufacturing, and processing activities, according to the White House.

Back in 2024, both companies reported the completion of a $2.92 million transaction involving Emcore’s New Jersey–based chip division and its indium phosphide wafer production facilities.

The directive stated that the deal “threatens to impair the national security of the United States,” underscoring the administration’s continuing push to restrict Chinese access to sophisticated semiconductor innovations.

Under the order, HieFo must divest within 180 days unless the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States—a federal body responsible for reviewing deals involving American firms for potential security risks—approves an extension.
