Pakistani PM emphasizes inclusion for visually impaired

(MENAFN) Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday emphasized the government’s dedication to protecting the rights of people with visual impairments and promoting their full inclusion in society, according to official statements.

Marking World Braille Day, the prime minister highlighted the far-reaching influence of the Braille system developed by Louis Braille, noting that it has significantly improved access to education and information for millions of people worldwide.

He also recognized the achievements of visually impaired Pakistanis in various professional fields, pointing to Saima Saleem, an official at Pakistan’s mission to the United Nations, as an example of overcoming obstacles through determination and excellence.

Sharif drew attention to ongoing national efforts aimed at making published materials more accessible to individuals with visual or print disabilities. He further called on educational institutions, civil society organizations, media outlets, and the private sector to play a stronger role in promoting Braille literacy and ensuring accessible facilities.

Reiterating the government’s stance, the prime minister said equal opportunities must be guaranteed so that all citizens can actively contribute to Pakistan’s development.
