Borsa Istanbul Surges on First Day of 2026


(MENAFN) Türkiye’s leading stock index closed the opening session of 2026 at 11,498.38 points, marking a 2.1% increase from its prior close.

The BIST 100 began Friday at 11,296.52 points and gained 236.86 points compared to Wednesday’s finish, as markets had been shut on Thursday for New Year’s Day. The day’s lowest level was 11,296.52, while the peak reached 11,498.38.

The overall market capitalization of the BIST 100 stood at approximately 11.33 trillion Turkish liras ($264.4 billion), with daily trading volume recorded at 115.9 billion liras ($2.61 billion). Out of the listed stocks, 78 advanced while 21 declined relative to the previous close.

In commodities, gold was priced at $4,334.25 per ounce, and Brent crude traded at $59.99 per barrel as of 6:25 p.m. local time (1525 GMT).

Currency markets showed the U.S. dollar at 43.0385 liras, the euro at 50.5470 liras, and the British pound at 58.0260 liras.
