Burhan Vows Victory Over RSF

(MENAFN) On Thursday, Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan pledged triumph in the ongoing war against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), while emphasizing that the path to national reconciliation remains open.

“We reassure our people everywhere that victory is coming and that victory will belong to the Sudanese people,” Burhan declared during a speech commemorating the 70th anniversary of Sudan’s independence, as reported by a state news agency.

“We also affirm that the door to national reconciliation remains open,” he added.

Burhan asserted that the conflict has united Sudanese citizens and reinforced their collective determination, assuring communities in Darfur and Kordofan that victory was near.

He also commended political groups supporting the army, reiterating that reconciliation is available to all willing to participate.

Sudan has been engulfed in a violent struggle between the military and the RSF since April 2023, resulting in thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions.

The three Kordofan states—North, West, and South—have endured weeks of intense battles between the two sides, forcing tens of thousands to flee.

Out of Sudan’s 18 states, the RSF controls all five in the Darfur region, except for parts of northern North Darfur still under army authority. Meanwhile, the military maintains control over most of the remaining 13 states across the south, north, east, and central areas, including the capital, Khartoum.
