Taal, Mayon Volcanoes Under Close Watch

(MENAFN) Volcanic earthquakes and tremors continue to be detected at Taal Volcano in Batangas province on Luzon Island in northern Philippines, local media reported Saturday.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), 25 volcanic quakes and six tremors were recorded at the site within the past 24 hours, each lasting between one and seven minutes, as noted by a local outlet.

The agency highlighted that activity levels have varied in recent days, following 51 volcanic earthquakes and 13 tremors documented on Thursday.

Taal Volcano, considered one of the country’s most active, remains under strict observation as officials continue to evaluate seismic changes that could indicate further instability.

Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines extended flight restrictions around Mayon Volcano in the Bicol Region of southeastern Luzon until Sunday.

The volcano was placed under Alert Level 2 due to heightened rockfall and ground deformation, which may signal a possible eruption.
