Iran Urges UN to Address Trump’s Threats
(MENAFN) The Iranian authorities have officially called on the United Nations to respond to a series of increasingly aggressive remarks made by US President Donald Trump, including his assertion that Washington is prepared to step into the ongoing turmoil in the Islamic Republic.
In a letter sent to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday, Iran’s envoy Amir Saeid Iravani accused Trump of “incitement to violence, unrest, and terrorist acts” inside the country.
“The President of the United States openly threatened the Islamic Republic of Iran with the use of force and intervention, declaring that ‘We are locked and loaded and ready to go,’” Iravani wrote.
The letter further argued that “these repeated and deliberate statements demonstrate a consistent pattern of unlawful conduct by the United States,” while pointing to a long record of alleged American interference in Iran’s internal matters.
Examples cited included the 1953 coup, US backing of Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq conflict, the destruction of Iran Air Flight 655, and the killing of General Qassem Soleimani six years ago.
Meanwhile, widespread demonstrations broke out across Iran in late December, initially triggered by economic struggles such as the sharp decline of the national currency.
The protests have since intensified, with participants attacking government facilities and engaging in confrontations with security forces.
