Somalia Addresses Türkiye’s Backing in Protecting Sovereignty
(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud emphasized that Somalia has deeply experienced Türkiye’s support during a period when the nation faces challenges to its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Presidential Dolmabahce Working Office, Mohamud expressed gratitude to Erdogan for his leadership and assistance during Somalia’s difficult times.
He noted that, particularly in moments marked by threats to Somalia’s sovereignty, the country has felt the solidarity of Türkiye and its people. Mohamud added that Somalia is striving to build a strong government capable of protecting its territorial integrity.
The Somali leader recalled Türkiye’s earlier role as a mediator between Somaliland and Somalia, highlighting its continued efforts to resolve disputes peacefully and amicably.
He said Erdogan reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to stand by Somalia, stressing that such backing is vital for Somalia’s progress, peace, stability, and recovery.
Mohamud explained that his discussions with Erdogan also focused on expanding and strengthening cooperation across multiple fields. He pointed out that Somalia and Türkiye have increased collaboration in recent years, especially in areas of security and humanitarian aid.
Finally, Mohamud extended his appreciation to all allied nations, regional bodies, and organizations that have demonstrated solidarity with Somalia.
