Iran, Russia Back Palestinian Rights, Coordinate On Regional, Int'l Issues
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
MOSCOW, Dec 17 (KUNA) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi said on Wednesday they would coordinate on supporting Palestinian rights and other regional and international issues under a comprehensive partnership meant to guide relations for the next 20 years.
Speaking at a joint session in Moscow, Araghchi said Iran-Russia ties cover economic, political and cultural areas, adding that the two countries share closely aligned views on major regional and global issues, especially developments in the Middle East and Palestinian rights.
He also highlighted scientific and technological cooperation as a core foundation of the partnership, and said continued coordination among "independent allied states" is needed in international forums to counter chaos and violations of international law.
Meanwhile, Lavrov said the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty sets the roadmap for the next two decades, and noted the two sides will sign, for the first time, a foreign ministry consultation plan for 2026-28 to deepen foreign policy coordination, mainly on the Middle East and Palestinian rights.
Both ministers said the meeting also aimed to boost bilateral trade and advance joint energy and transport projects.
Lavrov added this was their fifth meeting in 2025, reflecting sustained coordination across multiple files.
Araghchi arrived in Moscow on Tuesday and met several senior Russian officials, including Chairman of the State Duma's Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky, to discuss bilateral ties and strategic cooperation. (end)
