Nris In UAE: Will AI Reduce Entry Level Job Prospects?
Question: There is a growing fear that AI will reduce the number of entry level jobs in India which may result in a demographic disaster. Is this possibility real?
ANSWER: While certain types of routine and business processing jobs may disappear, it is expected that the pace of innovation in AI-powered coding tools will accelerate dramatically. This democratisation of coding will result in having a billion self employed developers. Currently, there are around 20 million Indian developers who are already on the GitHub platform. They are one of the largest contributors to open-source and generative AI projects. More and more youngsters are learning how to code and coding facilitates problem solving. GitHub's student programme in India is the platform's second largest and pupils as young as eleven are now tinkering with the company's new consumer-oriented tool, GitHub Spark.
Recommended For YouThe main opportunities in India are on account of several languages. At present, most of the programming is in English which has been converted into local languages used by millions of Indians. Developers are now asking questions in Hindi, Kannada, Telegu, etc, and getting answers in the same language. This multilingual support is crucial to unlock the next generation of millions of programmers. With AI-powered tools, communication and problem solving are more important than ever before. Precise framing of a task embedded in code context determines how well an agent can execute it. While the new models do better at filling in the gaps, the ability to ask the right question remains with the individual. Therefore, artificial intelligence platforms will create more opportunities and jobs as human intelligence will continue to play a crucial role and ensure innovation and efficiencies.
Question: I am working for a German company which trades in renewable fuels. I was wondering whether India is ready to meet the demand for supplying these fuels to Europe.
ANSWER: Last year, the European Union and India discussed the supply of green hydrogen to the member countries of the EU having regard to the provisions of Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement which grants carbon credits from green hydrogen and derivative products. India is in a position to ship green methanol and green ammonia, having a production capacity which will rise to five million tonnes by March 2030. This will meet only half the requirement of the European Union which expects to achieve a 42% share of renewable fuels of non-biological origin.
Therefore, the export potential for India is enormous and it is emerging as one of the major players in global green hydrogen production. The main advantage is that these products are compliant with European rules and regulations. The renewable hydrogen market in the EU is expected to expand as cars are being manufactured in these countries with lower emissions for which the renewable fuels will be used.
Question: Some of my friends working in the Gulf are visiting India for medical treatment. Are there any benefits in doing so, especially if they have a health insurance cover based on a policy taken in the Gulf?
ANSWER: Medical treatment in India has been found by non-resident Indians as well as foreign citizens to be attractive in view of quicker access to doctors and faster diagnosis and treatment. In case of most medical procedures, the treatment costs are substantially low. NRIs also find it attractive to be hospitalised in India as they would have the comfort of family members who would be around during the recuperation phase after the treatment is completed. If a NRI or foreign citizen has an overseas health insurance policy and he wishes to avail of medical treatment in an Indian hospital, he should first ensure that such hospital is accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals or the global organization Joint Commission International.
The patient should also determine whether the policy has the facility for cashless insurance claim settlements. The track record for grievance redressal needs to be kept in mind as sometimes this can be slow, cumbersome and difficult to manage once the patient returns to the Gulf after treatment. If the NRI has taken out a health insurance policy with an Indian insurance company, he would certainly be able to take advantage under this policy especially since the cashless network of the Indian insurance companies is working well in terms of claim settlements.
