Historic Qualification Arab Cup Finals Boosts Sales, Consumer Activity Across Kingdom
From cafés and restaurants to clothing retailers, gyms, and online platforms, the celebrations have quickly translated into increased consumer spending. Many businesses launched time-limited offers tied to match nights, qualification milestones, or national colours, aiming to capitalise on heightened public enthusiasm and foot traffic.
Economists told The Jordan Times that sporting achievements often trigger spikes in spending, particularly in hospitality and retail. Retailers have reported a surge in demand for Jordan-themed merchandise, including flags and apparel, while food and beverage outlets are benefiting from longer operating hours, group bookings, and packed match screenings. Delivery platforms are also seeing higher order volumes on match days, as households opt to celebrate at home.
For many local businesses, these campaigns are a calculated economic move.“The discounts are not just about celebration; they are about increasing volume in a short window,” said Ahmad Khalifa, owner of a café in Amman.“On match days, our sales increase by around 30 to 40 per cent.”
Retailers share this perspective, viewing the occasion as an opportunity to attract new customers.“We see this as a chance to bring people into the store who may not have visited us before,” said Mahmoud Khatib, who runs a local sportswear shop.
From a broader economic standpoint, such campaigns help stimulate demand at a time when households remain cautious due to rising living costs. Temporary promotions allow businesses to move inventory and generate cash flow without committing to permanent price cuts.
Analysts caution that the boost is likely to be short-lived. While celebratory spending can lift daily revenues, it does not automatically translate into sustained growth unless businesses successfully convert first-time visitors into loyal customers.
As Jordan's team prepares for the finals, businesses across the Kingdom are expected to continue leveraging the historic occasion to drive sales and engagement.
