Trump orders naval blockade on Venezuelan oil tankers
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump announced a full-scale oil blockade on Venezuela on Tuesday, diverting a large American naval presence in the Caribbean from anti-“narcoterrorist” operations to intercept sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving the country.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the move as “a total and complete blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers going into, and out of, Venezuela.” He added, “Venezuela is completely surrounded by the largest armada ever assembled in the history of South America. It will only get bigger, and the shock to them will be like nothing they have ever seen before – until such time as they return to the United States of America all of the oil, land, and other assets that they previously stole from us.”
The announcement follows the US seizure of a Venezuelan oil tanker, marking one of the few direct military actions against Caracas’s oil exports. Trump has also labeled Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s government a “Foreign Terrorist Organization,” asserting that oil profits are used to fund criminal networks and destabilize the region.
“Washington will not allow a Hostile Regime to take our Oil, Land, or any other Assets, all of which must be returned to the United States, IMMEDIATELY,” Trump stated.
The blockade coincides with a US naval buildup in the Caribbean and threats to conduct strikes on Venezuelan soil targeting alleged “narcoterrorists.” Since September, US forces have reportedly killed more than 80 individuals in operations against boats suspected of cartel activity, which Trump claims were being used by the Venezuelan government to transport narcotics to the US.
Caracas has denied any involvement in drug trafficking, calling the strikes part of a “colonialist” scheme to seize Venezuelan resources. The Venezuelan government condemned the US actions as “state piracy” and vowed to protect its territory and natural wealth.
