India Secures USD 2.2 Billion ADB Support For Itis, Rooftop Solar, Metro And Healthcare
Support for Skilling and Rooftop Solar Programmes
A loan of USD 846 million has been signed to support the Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded Industrial Training Institutes Programme.
The project aims to modernise 650 ITIs across 12 states and upgrade five National Skill Training Institutes into centres of excellence, helping around 1.3 million youth through demand-driven courses in high-growth sectors.
ADB has also committed USD 650 million under Sub-programme 1 of the Accelerating Affordable and Inclusive Rooftop Solar Systems Development Programme.
The funding will support the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana by accelerating rooftop solar adoption and expanding access to clean and affordable energy for up to 10 million households by 2027.
Investment in Regional Development
The Assam State Tertiary Health Care Augmentation Project has received USD 398.8 million to reduce gaps in tertiary healthcare by modernising medical colleges under the Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences.
ADB has also signed a USD 240 million loan for the second tranche of the Chennai Metro Rail Investment Project. This will support expansion of the metro network across key corridors, equipped with universal access and climate-resilient infrastructure.
A USD 77 million loan has been extended for the Integrated Ecotourism and Sustainable Agri-based Livelihood Development in Meghalaya Project.
The projects are aligned with India's flagship development programmes and are expected to strengthen human capital, clean energy adoption, healthcare infrastructure and sustainable livelihoods across multiple states.
