PM-KUSUM Covers Over 20.42 Lakh Beneficiaries Across India
The scheme operates on a demand-driven basis, with capacities and fund releases linked to proposals received from States and Union Territories and progress reported by State Implementing Agencies.
In a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik stated that cumulative funds released under PM-KUSUM amounted to Rs 801.36 crore in 2022–23, Rs 996.33 crore in 2023–24, Rs 2,564.14 crore in 2024–25, and Rs 2,031.15 crore in the current financial year up to 30 November 2025.
Maharashtra accounted for the highest fund releases during this period, receiving Rs 247.60 crore in 2022–23, Rs 330.21 crore in 2023–24, Rs 1,619 crore in 2024–25, and Rs 1,363.47 crore in 2025–26 so far. Other states with significant allocations included Rajasthan, Haryana, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh.
On beneficiary coverage, Maharashtra reported the highest number of beneficiaries at 11.21 lakh, followed by Rajasthan with 2.35 lakh, Gujarat with 2.28 lakh, and Haryana with 1.80 lakh beneficiaries.
Uttar Pradesh recorded over 72,000 beneficiaries, while Karnataka and Jharkhand reported more than 60,000 and 43,000 beneficiaries, respectively.
Smaller beneficiary numbers were reported from northeastern and hill states.
The minister said that under Component A of the scheme, farmers can lease land for solar power plants and earn up to Rs 80,000 per hectare per year, with commissioned projects reporting a median income of about Rs 4.5 lakh per megawatt per month.
Under Component B, diesel-powered irrigation pumps are replaced with solar pumps, leading to estimated annual diesel savings of around Rs 60,000 per farmer, with cost recovery achievable in less than a year.
Component C enables farmers to earn approximately Rs 25,000 per acre per year by leasing land for decentralised solar projects.
