30 Salem Family Members’ Bodies Get Recovered in Gaza

(MENAFN) Civil defense teams recovered the remains of 30 individuals from a single family on Tuesday from the debris of their home in western Gaza City.

The victims belonged to the Salem family and were killed on Dec. 19, 2023, in an Israeli airstrike targeting their residence in the al-Rimal neighborhood of Gaza City, according to a statement from the Civil Defense.

It is estimated that 60 members of the family lost their lives in the assault.

The destroyed house marked the initial location in a coordinated effort by the Civil Defense to locate thousands of Palestinians who are believed to be buried beneath the rubble of damaged structures across the Gaza Strip.

Search efforts will persist using limited machinery, including an excavator, to retrieve bodies from the debris, the agency reported.

Palestinian authorities stated that Israel controls more than half of Gaza and continues attacks on Palestinians in areas outside its direct control.

Since October 2023, Israel has killed nearly 70,700 individuals—mostly women and children—and injured over 171,000 in Gaza, leaving much of the enclave in ruins.
