Muslim Uber Driver Survives Violent Attack in Canada

(MENAFN) A ride-share driver survived a religiously motivated assault in Montreal last week, prompting warnings from advocacy organizations about escalating Islamophobic violence across Quebec and nationwide.

The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) disclosed Wednesday that the Muslim driver faced a life-threatening confrontation after a passenger allegedly interrogated him about his religious identity before issuing a chilling threat: "I'm going to slit your throat."

Only the swift action of a fellow passenger prevented potential catastrophe, according to the civil rights organization. The intervention stopped what could have resulted in severe injuries or worse.

Stephen Brown, CEO of the NCCM, delivered a stark assessment of the incident's broader implications. "It is deeply troubling to see something like this happen here, in our own province of Quebec. Muslims are not a threat. It is time for our political leaders to say this clearly and take action to stop the rise of hatred," he stated.

The advocacy group stressed that residents of Quebec should never experience fear for practicing their faith, while acknowledging that investigators continue verifying additional details surrounding the assault.

NCCM representatives confirmed ongoing communication with law enforcement agencies to ensure criminal accountability for the alleged perpetrator. The organization issued an urgent appeal to Quebec's political leadership, demanding both public condemnation of the attack and implementation of substantive policies designed to defuse mounting religious and cultural hostilities throughout the province.

Authorities have not yet released information regarding arrests or charges in connection with the incident.
