NSW police states at least sixteen people died in Sydney beach shooting
(MENAFN) A violent incident at Sydney’s Bondi Beach has left at least 16 people dead, with roughly 40 others still receiving medical care, according to information released by authorities in New South Wales.
Police indicated that further details are forthcoming, stating, "More information will be made available soon," in a message shared on the social media platform X.
Senior law enforcement officials classified the shooting as an act of terrorism, while state leadership said the attack was “designed to target the Jewish community.”
According to official briefings, one individual believed to have been involved in carrying out the attack was found among those killed. Authorities also confirmed that a second suspected gunman survived but remains in critical condition.
The injured include two police officers who were responding to the incident.
Officials said investigators are examining “a number of suspicious items located in the vicinity,” and confirmed that a secured exclusion zone has been established to protect the public while forensic teams work at the site.
Authorities added, “An extensive crime scene has been established, and inquiries are now underway. There have been NO reports of any other incidents in Sydney connected to this incident.”
The investigation remains active as officials continue to assess the full scope of the attack and its aftermath.
