Hamas condemns plans to alter Gaza, displace Palestinians
(MENAFN) On Sunday, Hamas issued a warning against efforts to “re-engineer” the Gaza Strip or forcibly displace Palestinians, framing such initiatives as part of Israeli strategies.
Marking its 38th anniversary, the group emphasized that “colluding with attempts at displacement and re-engineering the Gaza Strip according to the (Israeli) enemy's plans” is unacceptable, underscoring that the Palestinian people alone have the authority to select their leaders and manage their internal affairs.
Hamas stressed that forging a national consensus on a unified Palestinian strategy is essential to counter “the plans of the (Israeli) occupation and its supporters, which aim to liquidate our national cause and prevent the establishment of our independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.”
Reflecting on the past two years of conflict in Gaza, the group stated that “the (Israeli) occupation has achieved nothing but the criminal targeting of unarmed civilians.” It further condemned what it called “the systematic and well-documented crimes of the Zionist enemy over the two years of genocide and starvation in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and occupied Jerusalem,” urging international courts to pursue accountability for Israeli leaders responsible for these actions since October 2023.
Hamas reaffirmed its adherence to the ceasefire agreement and called on the US and other mediators to pressure Israel to respect the truce, open border crossings for humanitarian aid, and immediately implement relief, shelter, and reconstruction plans for more than two million Palestinians.
The group also reiterated its outright rejection of “all forms of guardianship or mandate over the Gaza Strip or any inch of our occupied land.”
The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which took effect on October 10, ended over two years of attacks that killed more than 70,000 people, mostly women and children, and injured nearly 171,000 others. Despite this, the Israeli military has repeatedly violated the truce, killing at least 386 Palestinians and injuring 1,018 since the agreement began.
