Tesla Reveals Shanghai Factory Produced Over 4M Vehicles

(MENAFN) Tesla revealed Tuesday that its Shanghai manufacturing facility has crossed the 4 million vehicle production milestone, marking a significant acceleration in output capacity.

The electric vehicle maker confirmed the landmark unit—a Model Y L electric car—exited the production line last night.

The company highlighted a dramatic ramp-up timeline: while the facility required over 30 months to achieve its initial 1 million vehicle mark following its January 2019 launch, the expansion to 4 million units took just 14 months.

Production milestones show the plant reached 2 million vehicles in September 2023 and hit 3 million in October 2024.

During the first nine months of 2025, the Shanghai operation manufactured 675,000 cars, representing more than half of the American electric vehicle manufacturer's worldwide production volume.

Tesla's Shanghai plant stands as the corporation's largest manufacturing site beyond US borders. Output from the facility serves markets across the Asia Pacific territory, Europe, and mainland China.

The production complex achieves 95% domestic integration across its supply chain, with most component suppliers operating as manufacturers based in the Yangtze River Delta surrounding Shanghai.
