(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Amman, Dec. 9 (Petra) – Minister of Social Development and Head of the Ministerial Committee for Women's Empowerment, Wafaa Bani Mustafa, inaugurated a two-day conference on the role of local community development centers in preventing and addressing domestic violence.
The conference sessions will focus on strengthening the centers' role as inclusive social service hubs, improving response and referral mechanisms, and reinforcing national protection frameworks.
The event, organized by the Ministry in partnership with Expertise France and supported by the French Development Agency, is part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign.
Bani Mustafa stressed that protecting women and girls is a humanitarian, religious, and national responsibility. She noted that the consequences of violence extend beyond psychological and social suffering, limiting women's productive participation, and underscored the critical role of the Ministry's local community development centers in providing protection, empowerment, and awareness services across the Kingdom.
The Minister highlighted the need to translate policies into practical field actions, including developing procedures, enhancing economic empowerment initiatives, and linking programs to civil society and international partners. She praised collaborations with Expertise France, UNICEF's Makani project, and UN Women's Oasis project for their impact on social services and community outreach.
French Ambassador to Amman, Franck Gellet, emphasized that effective prevention and response to domestic violence is essential for social cohesion, development, and ensuring women's full participation in all sectors.
