(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Dec 9 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait prioritizes the dignity of the elderly, making it one of the pillars of the state's human rights policies, said Assistant Kuwait Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah on Tuesday.
In a speech addressing a three-day workshop, co-organized with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the Ministry of Social Affairs, Sheikha Jawaher affirmed that the event reflected Kuwait's commitment to the issue of human rights, especially when it concerns the elderly.
The workshop, which coincided with the GCC Human Rights Declaration on December 9 and International Human Rights Day on December 10, will focus on national priorities concerning the elderly, she added, noting that plans in this regard were in line with the New Kuwait Vision 2035 and the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).
She indicated that the workshop also boosted cooperation between government entities, civil society groups, and international organizations in elderly care and rights.
Sheikha Jawaher stressed that elderly rights and care were guaranteed by the constitution and laws.
Experts from ESCWA and representatives of Kuwaiti government bodies are participating in the workshop to help boost elderly rights in Kuwait. (end)
