Chinese car sales decline in Russia
(MENAFN) Chinese carmakers saw their share of Russia’s new vehicle market shrink in November, dropping to 44.7% from 54.2% a year earlier, according to general reports citing Avtostat head Sergey Tselikov.
Tselikov noted on Telegram that total new car sales reached 127,900 last month. He wrote, "57,200 of the vehicles sold were Chinese brands. The share of Chinese-made cars fell by 9.5 percentage points to 44.7% in November."
He also indicated that Lada’s share declined by about 10 percentage points, while several emerging Russian manufacturers expanded their footprint. Meanwhile, the Belarusian brand Belgee boosted its portion of the market from 2.65% to 6.5%, and vehicles from global brands brought in via “alternative routes” grew from 6.9% to 13.2%.
Western automakers, which dominated Russia’s automotive sector until early 2022, exited the market following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. After a period of stagnation, new car sales in Russia have been recovering, helped by strong Chinese exports and a rise in domestic production.
