(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Dec 4 (KUNA) -- Minister of Social Affairs, Family Affairs and Childhood Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah on Thursday issued a ministerial decision forming "the creativity award steering committee" for the disabled, coinciding with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
In a statement to KUNA, the minister said her decision came in line with the Law 8/2010 regarding right of the handicapped and in implementation of the state policy aimed at enabling this segment of the society to shift from care to effective partnership in development.
The minister indicated at her desire to bring into the limelight distinguished individuals with scientific, cultural, social and athletic contributions to alter the stereotype and boost a culture of empowerment and merger.
Minister Al-Huwailah explained that she would chair the award commission that would include representatives of the Public Authority for Disability, the ministries of education, information and finance, the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, the Public Youth Authority, the Public Sports Authority and Al-Awqaf General Secretariat.
The committee tasks include supervision, allocation of funds, setting categories, guidelines for participation, nomination mechanisms, timetables, forming sub-committees and endorsing winners' names. (end)
