Zelensky says Ukraine nearer to peace, urges global diplomatic effort

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told the Irish parliament on Tuesday that Ukraine is “closer to peace than ever before,” urging the international community to act collectively to end the war through diplomacy.

Speaking after a detailed briefing in Dublin following recent US discussions on a proposed peace plan, Zelenskyy emphasized that negotiations are intensifying. “There is a real, real chance, but we must seize this chance fully — the whole world, not just one powerful country,” he said.

He argued that while a single nation can start a war, restoring justice requires a united international effort. “When different voices stand together on the side of justice, there is only one possible outcome — peace,” Zelenskyy stated.

Zelenskyy also praised Ireland for its consistent support, noting that the country “understands the price of freedom” and plays a key role in maintaining international pressure on Russia.

Ireland announced an additional €125 million ($145 million) in support for Ukraine, part of the expanded 2030 Ukraine-Ireland Partnership. The five-year roadmap builds on a 2024 agreement and aims to strengthen cooperation across political, security, economic, and cultural areas, including recovery aid, innovation links, and an Ireland-Ukraine Economic Forum.

Of the new package, €100 million ($116 million) will go toward non-lethal military assistance to help Ukraine counter Russian missile and drone attacks, with the remainder allocated to reconstruction and broader initiatives.
