Government To Import Frozen Vegetables To Meet Demand
To better identify and address shortages during the ongoing disaster, lists of essential food items and goods submitted by District Secretaries will be published through the media. This initiative is aimed at informing suppliers of the most urgent needs faced by the public.
Chandrakeerthi explained that the publicized lists will allow suppliers to coordinate directly with District and Divisional Secretaries, facilitating the swift delivery of essential goods.
In addition, steps are being taken to resolve potential challenges in the distribution of LP gas. Discussions are being held with Litro Gas to ensure uninterrupted supply and implement immediate solutions where necessary.
For medium-term relief, District Secretaries have been instructed to compile information from Divisional Secretaries and other government bodies and submit it to the Prime Minister's Office. The Office of the Secretary to the Prime Minister will then present these requirements in an accessible format, enabling both local and international donors to clearly identify needed assistance.
The system is designed to prevent the receipt of unnecessary items, ensure accurate identification of essential needs, and guarantee the proper delivery of aid to affected areas. Overseas donations will be received under the name of the Disaster Management Centre, allowing for applicable Customs duty and tax concessions.
