Suicide Bombing Claims Policeman’s Life, Injures Six in Pakistan
(MENAFN) A law enforcement officer died and six additional personnel sustained injuries following a suicide bombing targeting security forces in northwestern Pakistan on Monday, police authorities confirmed.
The assault—the latest in an escalating wave of suicide attacks spanning recent months—unfolded in the Lakki Marwat district of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, situated along the border with neighboring Afghanistan.
The suspected suicide bomber detonated explosives in proximity to a security vehicle, while his accomplice managed to escape, Asif Hassan, a spokesman for Lakki Marwat police, told reporters.
The bombing occurred one day after security forces thwarted a suicide bombing and another attack in the Noukandi and Mastung districts of southwestern Balochistan province on Sunday, killing several militants, a spokesman for the Frontier Corps, a paramilitary force, said.
Lakki Marwat, alongside the adjacent Bannu and North Waziristan tribal districts, has experienced persistent militant attacks as the South Asian nation has witnessed a surge in attacks in recent years.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a statement, condemned the attack and paid tribute to the deceased and injured police personnel.
Pakistan recorded an 80% surge in civilian fatalities but a dramatic 65% decline in security forces' casualties from terrorist attacks, according to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, an Islamabad-based think tank.
In its most recent monthly assessment, the think tank revealed that approximately 292 people were killed and 164 injured in anti-state violence and security forces' countermeasures across the country during November.
