Senators Vow “Vigorous Oversight” on Hegseth's "Kill Everyone" Order

(MENAFN) US Senators Roger Wicker and Jack Reed pledged "vigorous oversight" Saturday following allegations that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered military forces to kill all individuals aboard vessels suspected of drug trafficking in the Caribbean and Pacific.

Wicker, the Republican chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Reed, a Democratic committee member, released a joint statement announcing an investigation into reports that Hegseth issued a lethal force directive targeting suspected drug smugglers in September.

"The Committee has directed inquiries to the (Department of Defense), and we will be conducting vigorous oversight to determine the facts related to these circumstances," they stated.

"The Committee is aware of recent news reports and the Department of Defense's initial response — regarding alleged follow-on strikes on suspected narcotics vessels in the SOUTHCOM area of responsibility," the statement added.

The Washington Post published details Friday of a military operation conducted near Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean that killed 11 people aboard a vessel suspected of narcotics smuggling.

According to the report, Admr. Frank Bradley allegedly issued a second strike authorization to eliminate two survivors following the initial attack, purportedly acting on Hegseth's instructions.

An unnamed source speaking to The Washington Post under anonymity claimed Hegseth gave an order "to kill everyone on the boat."
