India, Afghanistan ink pharmaceutical memorandum of understanding
(MENAFN) Indian and Afghan pharmaceutical companies have inked a $100 million memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at boosting medicine supply to Afghanistan.
The agreement was signed at the Afghan Consulate in Dubai between Afghanistan’s Raoufi Global Group Company and India’s Zydus Lifesciences, according to Afghanistan’s Industry and Commerce Ministry.
Under the pact, Zydus Lifesciences will initially export medicines to Afghanistan and later transfer technical knowledge and know-how to local partners. The Indian firm also plans to relocate its representative office to Afghanistan and eventually establish domestic drug production in the country.
Afghan Health Minister Noor Jalal Jalali noted that the ministry is working with international partners to address the nation’s ongoing medicine shortages, which are expected to ease soon.
The MoU follows earlier discussions between Afghan Trade Minister Alhaj Nooruddin Azizi and Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in New Delhi, which focused on strengthening bilateral trade relations, including the pharmaceutical sector.
This deal marks a significant step toward enhancing healthcare access and local pharmaceutical capacity in Afghanistan.
