Mass Shooting Leaves Four Dead, Over Dozen Injured in California
(MENAFN) At least four people have been killed and 14 wounded in a mass shooting that erupted Saturday evening in Stockton, northern California, authorities confirmed.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office announced via X that emergency dispatchers received initial reports of gunfire near the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue in Stockton shortly before 6:00 p.m.
"Shortly before 6:00 p.m., our dispatch center received reports of a shooting that occurred near the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue in Stockton. We can confirm at this time that approximately 14 individuals were struck by gunfire, and four victims have been confirmed deceased," the sheriff's office stated.
Officials characterized the investigation as "very active" and ongoing, noting that available information remains scarce at this stage.
"Early indications suggest this may be a targeted incident, and investigators are exploring all possibilities. Detectives are actively working to determine the circumstances leading up to this tragedy," authorities added.
Vice Mayor Jason Lee disclosed that the violence unfolded during a children's birthday celebration, expressing profound grief over the tragedy.
"As Vice Mayor of Stockton — and as someone who grew up in this community — I am devastated and angry to learn about the mass shooting at a child's birthday party," he posted on Facebook.
Lee confirmed he has maintained contact with municipal staff and public safety personnel regarding the incident, pledging to demand comprehensive answers about the events that transpired.
Authorities have not released any suspect descriptions or information to the public.
Law enforcement has secured the perimeter while crime scene investigators continue their forensic examination of the location.
