A drone attack launched from Afghanistan into Tajikistan late on 26 November killed three Chinese citizens working for a private company, according to Tajik authorities.

Officials confirmed that the strike occurred in the border region between Tajikistan's Khatlon province, specifically Shamsuddin Shohin district, and Afghanistan's Badakhshan province in the Shahr-e Bozorg area.

In a statement, the Tajik Foreign Ministry said the drone targeted a Chinese company operating in the south of the country, killing three of its employees.

The ministry expressed concern over continuing cross-border threats, noting that criminal groups active inside Afghanistan were responsible for destabilizing activities despite Tajikistan's efforts to maintain security, peace, and stability along its frontier.

Tajikistan strongly condemned the incident and urged Afghan authorities to take effective measures to ensure peace and stability along the shared border. Officials stressed the need to curb cross-border militant activity to prevent further security incidents.

According to international news agencies, Afghan militant groups remain active in the mountainous regions adjacent to the Tajik border, adding to the security challenges faced by both countries.
