Nearly Dozen Dead as Test Train Hits Construction Workers in China

(MENAFN) A test train conducting seismic surveys collided with construction personnel on the tracks in southwest China, leaving eleven dead and two wounded, according to state media reports Thursday.

The fatal incident unfolded at Luoyang Town Railway Station in Kunming, Yunnan province, when workers entered a curved track section directly in the path of the approaching train.

Media confirmed that officials immediately implemented an emergency response protocol and opened a formal investigation into the deadly crash.

Station operations have returned to normal following the accident, while the two surviving victims continue receiving medical care at area facilities.

Provincial authorities pledged to criminally charge those found liable under Chinese law, conduct a comprehensive review to prevent similar tragedies, and implement enhanced safety protocols across railway operations throughout the region.

The incident highlights ongoing safety concerns surrounding railway construction projects as China continues expanding its vast rail network.
