(MENAFN) US and Ukrainian representatives are reportedly exploring whether Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy could journey to the United States next week, according to a news agency, which disclosed the discussions on Sunday.

This possible visit is tied to US President Donald Trump’s effort to finalize a peace deal for Ukraine by the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, the news organization noted.

Multiple individuals acquainted with the talks indicated that Zelenskyy’s decision to travel will ultimately depend on the outcomes of the ongoing peace negotiations in Geneva.

The meetings in Geneva center on a contentious 28-point American peace proposal.

The preliminary plan calls for Ukraine to yield territory, limit the scale of its armed forces, and step back from its aspiration to join NATO.

Although a senior White House figure suggested that no definitive arrangements for a trip exist due to the fluid diplomatic situation, another scenario under consideration is that US Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll might journey to engage directly with Russian officials.

Trump has insisted that Zelenskyy provide an answer by Thursday and has publicly faulted Ukraine’s leadership for expressing "zero gratitude" for Washington’s attempts to halt the conflict with Russia.

Zelenskyy stated that he is confronting a decision between "loss of our dignity or the risk of losing a key partner."
