Report reveals sharp increase of academic boycotts of Israel
(MENAFN) An Israeli report has highlighted a sharp rise in academic boycotts targeting Israeli researchers and institutions, even after the conclusion of the Gaza conflict.
The study, conducted by the Academic Boycott of Israel Monitoring Team under the Committee of University Presidents in Tel Aviv, found that Israel’s negative image in Europe remains deeply entrenched, with political actions alone insufficient to change public perception.
Contrary to expectations, the end of the Gaza war did not ease boycott pressure. The report noted a surge in cases filed by institutions and individual academics against Israeli entities.
Officials warned that the growing boycott movement could push Israel’s higher education sector into dangerous international isolation, posing a strategic threat to its global standing.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged in mid-September that Israel faces “a kind of isolation,” emphasizing the need for a more self-reliant economy.
