Lithuania Presses U.S. to Adopt Harder Stance on Russia

(MENAFN) Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys on Wednesday urged Washington to adopt a more forceful approach toward Moscow amid ongoing discussions over a US-drafted 28-point peace framework for the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Speaking to a broadcaster, Budrys said he hopes the US administration will take a firmer stance on Moscow as negotiations over the plan advance.

"We can set deadlines, but it is very important to stick to them and to spell out what happens if they are not met," he explained.

The Lithuanian minister emphasized the need for a sanction, penalty, or "some sort of consequence" should Russia fail to honor any agreed timeline.

“There is no need to pressure Ukraine here; Russia is the one that must be pressured," he added.

The 28-point framework, which was partially leaked earlier this month, reportedly includes provisions that could require Ukraine to cede more territory to Russia, scale back its military, and halt its pursuit of NATO membership.
