UN says Israeli attacks jeopardize Gaza truce
(MENAFN) According to reports, the UN on Monday warned that recent Israeli strikes on populated areas in Gaza are endangering the fragile ceasefire, urging all parties to exercise restraint and uphold their commitments under the agreement.
Speaking to the UN Security Council, UN Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Ramiz Alakbarov said the airstrikes have resulted in “numerous casualties and significant destruction,” while attacks on Israeli soldiers in Gaza have also caused fatalities. He stressed: “This violence is jeopardizing the fragile ceasefire. I urge all parties to exercise restraint and fulfill their commitments under the agreement.”
Alakbarov noted that with the ceasefire largely holding, the UN has intensified efforts to mobilize humanitarian assistance, aiming to reach affected populations wherever they are. “We must not risk a reversal,” he said, calling for a coordinated international effort to consolidate the ceasefire and work toward “a more secure and just future for all.”
He added that although the availability and prices of basic food commodities have slightly improved, key protein sources, including chicken, meat, and eggs, remain inaccessible to many families. Alakbarov also raised concerns about persistent shortages of shelter materials such as tents and blankets.
