US, Ukraine Highlight Advances in Peace Negotiations
(MENAFN) The United States and Ukraine announced notable advancements on Sunday, describing the discussions as the "most productive" to date in the ongoing efforts to broker a Russia-Ukraine peace agreement. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio highlighted the progress during the talks.
At a press briefing at the US Mission in Geneva, Rubio described the opening session as "probably the most productive and meaningful meeting so far in this entire process," emphasizing that the discussions benefited from comprehensive contributions from all parties involved.
He added, "We were able to go through some of the items now, point by point. And I think we’ve made good progress," reflecting the tangible steps achieved during the talks.
Rubio further noted that delegations had separated to fine-tune proposals with the goal of bridging remaining differences.
"We're working through making some changes, some adjustments, in the hopes of furthering narrowing the differences and getting closer to something that both Ukraine and obviously the United States are very comfortable with," he explained.
He also remarked, "Obviously, this will ultimately have to be signed off of our presidents, although I feel very comfortable about that happening," while adding that the US has gained “substantial insights” into Russia’s priorities.
Ukraine’s presidential chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, echoed the positive outlook, confirming the momentum achieved during the negotiations.
