Russia Open to Resume Ukraine Peace Talks After Erdogan Appeal

(MENAFN) Russia indicated Wednesday its willingness to resume negotiations over Ukraine, responding to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's revived optimism for reactivating the Istanbul diplomatic channel.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov informed journalists that Moscow maintains its preference for dialogue while dismissing claims that it bears responsibility for the extended diplomatic stalemate.

"Moscow is open to continuation; Moscow is open to negotiations," a news agency quoted him as saying.

He repeated the charge that the negotiation freeze stems from the reluctance of the "Kyiv regime."

Erdogan declared earlier Wednesday that Türkiye believes the Istanbul framework could be resurrected "with a comprehensive framework that can address acute problems." He noted that Ankara facilitated three rounds of Russia-Ukraine negotiations this year, during which "progress was made" and both parties successfully engaged in direct discussions regarding ceasefire and peace terms.

He characterized the sessions as a pivotal diplomatic achievement and reaffirmed Türkiye's openness to evaluating any proposals from Moscow that secure a ceasefire and establish pathways toward a just and enduring peace settlement.
