Clash breaks between Israeli soldiers at army base in northern Israel

(MENAFN) A serious confrontation broke out among Israeli soldiers at a northern military installation, according to reports on Wednesday. Footage circulating online captured troops inside the base’s dining hall striking one another and hurling chairs during the altercation.

According to reports, the clash took place on Sunday and involved members of the Givati Brigade and a group of combat engineers. What began as a verbal dispute quickly escalated into a full physical fight.

Military officials denounced the incident and announced that an inquiry had been launched to determine what happened, according to the accounts. No explanation was provided regarding the initial cause of the argument.

A separate investigation conducted by an international foundation based in Belgium linked the Givati Brigade to repeated mistreatment of civilians in Gaza, including torture, looting, and widespread destruction of homes.

Reports also note that since October 2023, Israeli military operations in Gaza have resulted in nearly 70,000 deaths—primarily women and children—left more than 170,000 injured, and devastated much of the territory. These operations halted following the ceasefire that began on Oct. 10.
