Centre Drops QCO For Viscose Staple Fibre To Ease Textile Raw Material Supply

(MENAFN- KNN India) New Delhi, Nov 19 (KNN) The Central Government has withdrawn the Quality Control Order (QCO) for Viscose Staple Fibre (VSF) with immediate effect, following consultations with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and key industry stakeholders.

The decision comes in response to long-standing concerns from textile manufacturers, exporters and MSMEs about supply shortages and increased input costs arising from the QCO.

Industry bodies had argued that the regulation was restricting raw material availability and affecting production timelines.

The government said the move is aimed at improving ease of doing business and ensuring uninterrupted access to raw materials within the textile value chain.

Officials at Ministry of Textiles noted that stable and affordable VSF supplies are critical for supporting the industry's growth.

They said this will be particularly important as India pursues its Vision 2030 targets, including expanding domestic consumption, achieving USD 100 billion in textile and apparel exports, and growing the overall market to USD 350 billion.

The removal of the QCO is expected to enhance the sector's global competitiveness, support industry-led growth, and help strengthen supply chains across spinning, weaving, garmenting and export-focused units.

The Ministry reiterated that enabling smooth raw material access will remain a priority as India accelerates its push to become a leading global textile hub.

MSME units, which rely heavily on cost-efficient raw materials for spinning and fabric production, are expected to benefit from improved VSF availability and reduced compliance burden.
