Jillian Sunderland
- PhD Student, University of Toronto
I'm a PhD candidate in Sociology at the University of Toronto and a Joseph-Armand Bombardier SSHRC Doctoral Scholar. At its core, my work seeks to understand how masculinity functions as both a moral language and a structure of feeling in times of institutional crisis-shaping the emotional and political foundations of contemporary governance.
Alongside my academic research, I engage in public scholarship and research-creation. I've written and commented on gender, policing, and extremism for The Conversation, CBC, Toronto Star, and CTV, and I'm developing a visual essay series, Contact Histories: Masculinity, Power, and the Grammar of Composure, which extends my sociological work through fine-art photography.
