Trump says Democrats weaponized selected Epstein files against him

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has dramatically shifted his position, urging House Republicans to vote for the release of all remaining unredacted documents related to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein. He accused Democrats of manipulating portions of the files for political purposes.

Epstein, who died in a Manhattan jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, had long-standing connections with influential figures in the US and abroad. The case continues to fuel political disputes, with both parties alleging that the other is exploiting the scandal for advantage.

Last week, a congressional committee released 20,000 documents tied to the Epstein investigation. Some Democrats pointed to Trump’s past association with Epstein, citing an email in which Epstein claimed Trump “knew about the girls.” In turn, Trump ordered investigations into Epstein’s connections with prominent Democrats, including Bill Clinton, labeling the scrutiny a “Epstein Hoax.”

On Monday, Trump posted on Truth Social: “House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files, because we have nothing to hide.” He added that Democrats were using the case to distract the public from other issues, stating, “The House Oversight Committee can have whatever they are legally entitled to, I DON’T CARE!”

During his campaign, Trump promised to declassify the Epstein files, signing an executive order toward that end shortly after taking office. In February, the US Attorney General released a “first phase” of documents, but critical materials—including flight logs, client names, and contact lists—remain sealed. This has spurred speculation about the identities of those involved and drawn criticism from some of Trump’s own supporters, including Elon Musk, who suggested in a now-deleted post that Trump’s name being in the files explains why they remain classified.
