New York, Nov. 17 (Petra) A United Nations report released Monday highlighted ongoing Israeli settlement expansion in the occupied Golan Heights, noting Israel's aim to double the settler population in the area.
Presented to the Fourth Committee of the General Assembly (Special Political and Decolonization Committee), the report stated that Israeli settlement activities in the Golan constitute violations of international law and UN resolutions.
The report noted that the Israeli military entered the buffer zone a week after the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime, conducted airstrikes across Syria, and that the Israeli cabinet approved around $11 million to support settlement expansion in the occupied Golan Heights.
It further stated that since December 8, 2024, the Israeli army has maintained a continuous presence in the buffer zone, and that the Israeli Prime Minister has pledged that "the Golan Heights will remain an integral part of Israel forever."
