Arab Chess Championship '25 Kicks Off In Kuwait


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Nov 17 (KUNA) -- The 2025 Arab Chess Championship for men and women players kicked off in Kuwait on Monday, and will run until November 25, with the participation of 87 players representing 18 Arab countries.
The opening ceremony was attended by President of the Arab Chess Federation Sheikh Khalid Al-Qasimi, Acting Director of Kuwait's Public Authority for Sport Bashar Abdullah, and a number of Arab diplomats in Kuwait.
Acting Director Bashar Abdullah expressed his pride in the Arab Chess Federation's decision to select Kuwait to host this championship, which aligns with the country's ongoing efforts to support sports.
For her part, Chair of the Championship's Organizing Committees, Dr. Amal Al-Kout, said the event brings Arab nations together under the umbrella of sport, intellect, and fair competition.
Meanwhile, Head of the Referees Committee Khalaf Al-Azmi stated that the championship consists of nine rounds, and the first round began today Monday, with each player allotted 90 minutes of playing time.
Participating countries include Kuwait, Egypt, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Somalia, and Palestine. (end)
