SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Construction work has been initiated on the first standard workshop for repairing agricultural machinery at a cost of seven million afghanis in the capital of northern Jawzjan province.

Officials say the workshop will provide repair services not only to Jawzjan farmers, but also to neighbouring provinces once completed.
Zabihullah Khairandish, spokesman for the Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the foundation stone of the technical repair workshop- costing seven million afghanis- was laid on Monday.

The project will be completed and put into service within the next three months, he added.

Similarly, Maulvi Sibghatullah, head of agricultural mechanisation at the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MoAIL), told the inaugural ceremony:“Jawzjan is the first province in the country where construction of a technical workshop for repairing agricultural machinery has begun from the ministry's development budget.”

He said once the project was completed, the workshop would repair agricultural machinery not only from Jawzjan, but also from neighbouring provinces and the repaired equipment will be made available to farmers.

Mohammad Rustam Karimi, head of agricultural affairs at the Jawzjan Agriculture Department, said that apart from repairing farmers' machinery, the workshop will also provide professional technical training opportunities for farmers and agriculture faculty students.

Meanwhile, Governor Qari Gul Haidar Shafaq welcomed the launch of the project, saying that implementing development projects in various sectors was among the priorities of the Islamic Emirate Afghanistan (IEA) to ensure people have access to better services.

The governor stressed that the project must be implemented in line with the required standards.

He added that once repaired, agricultural machinery would be offered to farmers at the lowest possible cost to support them in cultivation and agricultural production.
