Youth Held with Dummy Weapons in Kokernag
Anantnag ~ District Police on Sunday arrested three youths who, officials said, were moving through Kokernag brandishing dummy weapons and intimidating residents in Hiller village.
Police said they received a credible alert that the group had entered the house of Abdul Majeed Ahanger of Hiller and allegedly issued threats, triggering panic in the neighbourhood. Acting on the input, Police Station Kokernag registered FIR No. 122/2025 under Sections 333 and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
A joint team from Police Station Kokernag and SOG Kokernag, supervised by the SDPO Kokernag, launched a swift operation and apprehended three suspects: Yasir Ahmad Kasana, son of Mohammad Mirza of Anderwani Sagam Kokernag; Ajaz Ahmad Famda, son of Mohammad Rafiq of Thamankote Verinag Kapran; and Shahid Ahmad Teli, son of Javed Ahmad Teli of Hiller Arhama Kokernag.
ADVERTISEMENTFrom their possession, police recovered a dummy AK-47 rifle, a dummy pistol, and a green pouch believed to have been used to bolster the illusion of being armed.
Officials said the trio had attempted to sow fear by flaunting the toy guns in public and inside homes.“Their quick arrest prevented further intimidation and restored calm in the area,” a police officer said.
