Trump Reverses Stance, Calls for Release of Epstein Files
(MENAFN) In an unexpected turnaround, President Donald Trump declared on Sunday that Republicans in the US House of Representatives should vote to make all government documents concerning disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein public.
This statement marked a sharp departure from Trump’s previous months-long campaign pressuring Republican lawmakers to block the release of the files, collectively referred to as the Epstein files.
"We have nothing to hide, and it’s time to move on from this Democrat hoax perpetrated by radical left Lunatics in order to deflect from the great success of the Republican Party, including our recent Victory on the Democrat 'Shutdown,'" he remarked on his Truth Social platform.
"Nobody cared about Jeffrey Epstein when he was alive and, if the Democrats had anything, they would have released it before our landslide election victory. Some 'members' of the Republican Party are being 'used,' and we can’t let that happen," Trump added.
The reversal came shortly after Trump severed ties on Friday with longtime ally Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, who had declined to follow his directive to vote against releasing the Epstein files.
Speaking briefly to reporters on Sunday, Trump labeled Greene a "traitor" and stated, "I don't think anybody cares about her," signaling the end of their previously close relationship amid the Epstein controversy.
He later posted on social media that Greene "is working overtime to try and portray herself as a victim when, in actuality, she is the cause of all of her own problems."
