Chinese FM Stresses Need To Realign Bilateral Relations With Syria
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
BEIJING, Nov 17 (KUNA) -- Foreign Minister Wang Yi called Monday for rectifying the course of China-Syria relations and bringing them back onto the right track.
In a statement carried by Xinhua News Agency, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that Wang made the remarks during his meeting with Asaad Al-Shibani, foreign minister of Syria's interim government, in Beijing, where the two sides exchanged views on issues of mutual concern.
Wang reaffirmed China's support for Syria's efforts to achieve peace and to launch an inclusive dialogue "led and owned by the Syrian people," noting that such a process would help Syria reintegrate into the international community and reach solutions that reflect the will of its people, paving the way for the country's reconstruction as soon as possible.
In turn, Al-Shibani said that Syrian-Chinese relations have deep historical roots and hold strategic importance, reiterating Syria's commitment to the One-China principle and its opposition to any actions aimed at undermining it.
He expressed Syria's desire to work with China to advance the Belt and Road Initiative and enhance cooperation across various fields in support of national reconstruction, voicing hope that Beijing would continue providing assistance to Syria and backing it at the United Nations. (end)
