A Baku Declaration on Global Digital Development is set to be drafted.

As reported by Azernews, the announcement was made today by Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, Director of the International Telecommunication Union's (ITU) Telecommunication Development Bureau, during the opening ceremony of the World Telecommunication Development Conference in Baku.

Zavazava emphasized the profound impact of the digital revolution on societies and economies.

“Significant progress has been made in connectivity in recent years. The number of people offline has fallen from 2.7 billion in 2022 to 2.2 billion today. However, the digital divide has not been eliminated - in fact, it has taken on new and more complex forms. This gap is no longer just about infrastructure; it also stems from factors such as affordability, digital skills, and security,” he said.

He noted that while some countries are advancing rapidly in technologies like artificial intelligence and 6G, others still struggle with even the most basic internet access. This disparity is why one of the main goals of the conference is to develop the Baku Declaration, envisioned as a strategic roadmap for global digital development.

“We must act together to shape the digital future of our world,” the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau Director concluded.
