Hillary's PhD is on Renewable Energy Management and Adoption in Rural Communities in Zambia.
The study seeks to address important aspects of solar PV renewable energy adoption and provision in rural communities of Zambia. By taking a critical analysis from the neglected perspective of the rural communities, not served by national power grids, this study will explore reasons behind the mismatch between solar PV energy provision (supply) and demand needs in Zambia's rural communities. This will be done through understanding the current rural community; energy sources, who uses them, how they are used, why they are preferred, why they are prioritised and the extent to which solar PV adds to the rural community energy mix. Anticipated development impact of the research / study includes access to reliable and sustainable energy sources for rural development, improving livelihoods, and reducing poverty levels. Others include informing policy and planning, promoting sustainable development and empowering rural communities.
